Young Jeezy Says Rick Ross Wanted Beef For Record Sales

Young Jeezy’s fourth solo album, TM: 103 Hustlerz Ambition, will finally arrive December 20, and on Wednesday (November 30), the Snowman joined Sway on “RapFix Live” to talk about the LP.

During their discussion, Jeezy opened up about his relationship and rumored beef with Rick Ross, explaining where things stand at this point.

The contention between the two began in August 2010, when Jeezy released a freestyle over the instrumental to Rick Ross’ hit “B.M.F.” titled “Death B4 Dishonor.” The song bore a few lines that were perceived as a dis, specifically, “How you blowin’ money fast/ You don’t know the crew/ Oh, you part of the fam?/ Sh–, I never knew.” Later that year, Jeezy told MTV News that the song had been recorded even before Ross released “B.M.F.,” but the rumors and slight jabs in the media have continued ever since.

“With rap, it’s a funny thing. You can say things, and people can take ‘em the way they wanna take ‘em,” Jeezy said, addressing “Death B4 Dishonor.” “But in my mind, in my heart, I just killed the verse. If I killed the verse and you took it personally, then that’s on you.”

The Atlanta rapper said he isn’t dwelling on any issues with Ross, despite things that have happened in the past. “I hear things; the streets talk. I’m hearing he reaching out to [Big] Meech and trying to get him to speak bad — that’s my brother,” Jeezy said of the Black Mafia Family drug dealer. “When you’re trying to bring the streets into rap to prove a point, then you already lost. You separate the two, and that ain’t to be played with. You’ve got people that lost their lives and people that are doing real time. If we gon’ make music, let’s just make music.”

Aside from those few lines on “Death B4 Dishonor,” Jeezy said the issue spiraled thanks to a Web clip, which Ross perceived to be an additional jab at him. “I feel like the whole started thing from a clip on WorldStarHipHop, and my thing was, if I’m a boss and you a boss, let’s sit down and be bosses,” he said. “You take a clip that somebody edited and run with that? What part of the game is that? If you felt like that, hit me up, let’s chop it up, we bosses.”

Finally, Jeezy said he didn’t take things seriously after bumping into Ross at the BET Hip Hop Awards, where the Miami rapper declined to exchange any words with him. “I felt like it was about selling records,” Jeezy said. “It’ not about you about me. We could’ve stepped in the corner and chopped it up. So right then and there, I knew it was about records, so I was cool with it.”

Scarface Talks Inspiration Behind ‘Mind Playin Tricks On Me’

Scarface and the Geto Boys inspired so many up-and-coming rappers with their 1991 classic “Mind Playing Tricks on Me.” The Notorious B.I.G., 50 Cent, Prodigy, Game, Killer Mike and the Clipse have all either sampled the track or referenced it in their lyrics, but fans might be surprised to learn that it was Scarface’s grandmother who inspired him to write the influential track.

“He came to the room. I think I was just mumbling to myself, my lips were working or something, and he said, ‘Mama, what you talkin’ about?’ I said, ‘Oh, nothing, my mind’s just playing tricks on me,’ ” the rapper’s grandmother told MTV News as her famous grandson looked on. “I didn’t have no idea he was gonna go out and make a song about it.”

In the song’s memorable video, ‘Face experiences hallucinations, running from a shadowy figure he believes is out to get him. The clip was a mainstay on “Yo! MTV Raps” back in the 1990s. On Sunday, the iconic video show is making a comeback with a new special “MTV2 Presents: Yo! MTV Raps: Classic Cuts.” The show will examine the stories behind some of rap’s most influential records, including “Mind Playing Tricks On Me.”

While the world loved the Geto Boys’ breakout single, Mama ‘Face had a little problem with the profane language. “When I heard it and he came out with it, I tell you the truth, it just overflowed me, I tell ya, and then I heard some little ol’ words to it, and I thought I’d bring it to his attention,” she said before she told MTV News the advice she then shared with her rapping grandson: “Now that you got your foot in the door, clean your act up a little bit.”

TMZ Reports: Lil Boosie tells TMZ … he’s finally realized he’s a hardcore drug addict … and now that he’s been sentenced to prison, he wants to focus on kicking the habit.

As we previously reported, the Louisiana rapper was sentenced to 8 years in prison Tuesday after copping a guilty plea for attempting to smuggle drugs into prison — 3 separate times.

Now, Boosie’s lawyer tells us … the rapper is happy with the resolution — because Boosie is confident officials will allow him to participate in a drug rehab program so he can beat his addiction to codeine and other drugs.

Boosie — who’s also facing 1st degree murder charges in an unrelated case — released a statement to TMZ … saying, “Don’t worry about me I am getting help with my drug addiction and I am accepting full responsibility for the choice I made.”

Lil Wayne Gives Advise To Upcoming Artists

Young Money head honcho Lil Wayne recently spoke about the state of hip-hop and why aspiring rappers should reconsider their choice to become artists. Weezy outlines his case against becoming a rapper trying to make it in the industry.

"All I can say is make sure that you're not rhyming because you figured you could sound like Drake. Make sure those aren't the reasons that you're picking up a pad and pen," Wayne explained. "Make sure that you're doing it for a real reason. I did this when I was 8 years old. I started writing raps for a reason, and that reason was because I loved to make words rhyme. That was my reason for making music. So make sure you have a real reason that you want to rhyme. Don't make that reason be 'I'm tryna make it out the 'hood'' or 'I'm tryna feed my family,' because this sh*t ain't guaranteed to do none of those things. ... If you want to be where I'm at with it-I been in this 18 years. If you ain't got that kind of dedication, then just leave it alone and do something that can actually benefit your future for the long run." (VIBE)

After almost thirty years of making music, producer/rapper Dr Dre says he is funally ready for a break. Dre, at the SoHo opening of a Beats By Dre store, said after he works with Kendrick Lamar and Slim Da Mobster, he's taking time off.

“These are the next two artists I’m working on, Slim Da Mobster and Kendrick Lamar. I think that’s when I’m gonna just wrap it up for a minute because I’ve been working on music for 27 years now and the longest I’ve ever been out of the studio in 27 years has been two weeks,” Dr. Dre explained. “So yea I feel like I’m gonna take a little bit of a break. I’m never gonna stop music, it’s like air to me. So I’mma take a little bit of a break. Enjoy some time with the family til I get that itch to get back in.”

Dre did speak about his Beats By Dre line saying they will not stop until they have become second only to Apple.

“I’m shocked myself as to how well they’re doing. We’re gonna keep new and exciting product coming. We’re trying to eventually be second to Apple. And I don’t think that’s a bad position,” said Dr. Dre. “We’re really trying to take over everything with a speaker. And also microphones. We’re gonna get involved in that also.”

BoB Says Andre 3000 Is Passing The Tourch

BoB, aka Bobby Ray, recently spoke about his upcoming "Strange Clouds" sophomore album and how it shows his artistic growth. Already stating that the album features Andre 3000, BoB says he feels it's a "passing the torch" type move.

“Man, 3000, we took him to the year 5000 on this one. I feel like it’s a good chance for people to see the differences between me and Dre,” he said. “For me, it’s like a pass the torch moment, like passing the baton off. Now I gotta take it around the track. But man, it’s a really dope song, I’m excited about it. It’s one of the singles off the album Strange Clouds. The clouds can only get stranger from here.”

The Grand Hustle rapper says the album, in stores March 2012, outdoes his "Adventures Of Bobby Ray" debut album, taking artistry to the next level.

“I don’t really like hyping things up beyond belief and all that shit, but the album is definitely progressed tremendously since the last album. I sacrificed - I ain’t sleep, missing family events, everything. Just basically living in the studio, so this next project, I’m really excited about it.”

Dame Dash Settles Bootlegging Charges

Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder Damon Dash recently cleaned up his 'bootlegging' charges. Dash had his DD172 establishment hit with a restraining order for selling and distributing alcohol without a permit but a Lower Manhattan juge agreed to settle the order today.

Dash’s lawyer Joshua Seidman told us that the city had never served his client any papers and that “selling liquor was never a part of the business model of that location.” (Two police documents from April and May obtained by the Voice list Dash by name on reports of an illegal bottle club/alcohol warehousing.) Seidman added that “the company hasn’t operated out of that premises since the beginning of summer.”

Game Calls Tyler The Creator "West Coast Eminem"

During a recent interview with VIBE magazine, rapper The Game says he thinks of Odd Future rapper Tyler, The Creator as the west coast Eminem. Game spoke about why he rhymed the way he did on "Martians vs Goblins," the track on his new "R.E.D. Album" that features Tyler, The Creator.

“The reason I did that was because I was on a song with Tyler. When you’re on a song with Tyler you can say whatever the fuck you want,” he explained. “I always say what I want but I don't think I go as far as Tyler…I think he’s like the west coast Eminem.” (VIBE)
“He don't give a fuck. He just rhyme about whatever and it's like right out of an open book. I like him more than I like most new rappers. He don't really want anything other than just to rap.” (VIBE)

Interscope Offices Used In Cocaine Ring

According to TheSmokingGun.com, Interscope Records offices were used to arrange pickups and deliveries of large amounts of cocaine and cash around the United States.

Department of Justice prosecutors this week provided defense lawyers with shipping records detailing “pickups and deliveries” made at Interscope’s Los Angeles office by a cargo firm that was used to transport the music cases, which were alternately stuffed with kilos of cocaine and upwards of $1 million in cash.

A year-long Drug Enforcement Administration investigation has resulted in the indictment of James Rosemond on 18 felony charges, which could result in a sentence of life in prison for the 46-year-old rap music manager. Rosemond, pictured in the below mug shot, is being held without bail in Manhattan’s Metropolitan Correctional Center. (TheSmokingGun.com)

Shawty Lo Talks 50 Cent Connections

New G-Unit business partner Shawty Lo recently spoke about his relationship with 50 Cent and why he says he relates so much with the G-Unit general. Saying their connection is deeper than just music, Shawty Lo says they both experienced the same things.

"Basically our similar life stories coming up," Shawty Lo said referring to 50. "My life, how I was raised by my grandmother and she passed. His life with his mother. Similar situations. We're cut from the same cloth. My grandmother raised me, my mother was on drugs, my daddy was elsewhere, my grandmother died of cancer when I was 17 years old. I've been on my own since then...I feel like what he is to New York, I am to Atlanta." (XXL Mag)

In related news, Shawty Lo recently promised fans that he would not be a one-hit-wonder under the G-Unit deal.

"That's an easy question. I'm not an artist. I am a boss and an artist. A lot of artists, depend on the label to do everything. I don't depend on the label to do everything; I have my own label, so I'm a boss and an artist." (VIBE)

Young Jeezy Says Release Date Is Final

After multiple delays, Young Jeezy says that his new "TM 103" album release is set in stone. "It's locked, it's dead-locked. It's time to go! September 20, how y'all want it," he told MTV News. Recently backstage at a show in Atlanta, Young Jeezy explained he didn't want to put out bad music just so he could make a release date.

"At the end of the day, I'm not about to give nobody no music to make a deadline, I'm gonna give them something to live and die by. If it ain't classic, it ain't monumental, I don't want to be a part of it. I make hits, man. I make classics. I can't just give somebody something just 'cause it's time. It's better late than never baby, trust." (MTV)

T-Pain Sues The Makers Of Auto-Tune

Once a huge supporter of the "Auto-Tune," T-Pain is now suing the company behind the music-effect software, Antares Technologies. Recently, T-Pain stopped using "Auto-Tune," ended his endorsement deal with Antares and created a company with a company Izotope to create his own "T-Pain Effect."

Yesterday (July 25th), the R&B singer filed a lawsuit claiming that the maker of "Auto-tune" is still using his image and likeness in their advertisements, packaging and marketing materials for their software. T-Pain also says that Antares even has licensed his name and image to other companies without his permission. The hit-singer is asking for at least $1 million dollars in damages.

Big Boi Hopes To Reunite With Andre 3000

Outkast's own Big Boi recently spoke about music mogul L.A. Reid becoming the Epic Records chairman and how he hopes the executive's promotion will help reunite him with Andre 3000. Big Boi says he hopes to get Andre 3000 on his upcoming "Daddy Fat Sax" sophomore solo album.

"I think it's very much possible because we have L.A. Reid in our corner now, and he was the first to sign Outkast," Big Boi said, referring to the record executive's recent jump from chairman of Island Def Jam Music Group to Epic Records. If all goes well, that move should undo the label roadblocks (Big Boi has a solo deal with Def Jam, while Outkast is signed to Jive) that kept the pair's "Lookin' for Ya" collaboration off of Big Boi's 2010 solo debut, Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty. Game Talks Joining Cash Money

The Game's upcoming "R.E.D." Album will be the last for his contract with Interscope Records. The West Coast rapper recently told XXL magazine that he's been talking with Birdman about maybe joining Cash Money next.

“I talk to Baby everyday. We been playing with the idea of going over to Cash Money or trying to marry that and Black Wall Street. So, we’ll figure it out before the end of the day. I definitely think that’s where I’ll probably end up. Cause they winning, they want to win and I been winning and want to continue to win.” (XXL Magazine)

Dallas Police Release Nicki Minaj Assault Report Confirming She Was Hit

Reports surfaced this week alleging an altercation between Nicki Minaj and one of her male assistants that resulted in the female rapper being struck in the face, and the Dallas Police Department responding and filing an incident report.

When news of the alleged assault his the internet, Minaj took to twitter to dispell the rumor, claiming the event never happened:

"The fact that u believe a man either slapped or punched me in the face & didn't leave on a stretcher w/his balls hangin off? #getaF%cknLife," she tweeted Wednesday (July 13th)

"The media could pee on ur leg & tell u its raining. You'd believe it. You'd believe u were an adopted martian if TMZ told u so. #stopit5" (Nicki Minaj's Twitter)

However, the Dallas Police Department took it upon themselves to call the Young Money artist out, and released the report, which details the physical damage Nicki Minaj took to her face when she was struck by a suitcase.

Dallas police also downplayed the incident and released the police report. The report says Minaj and an assistant had an argument by the pool at the hotel then went up to the room they were sharing. Then they argued over a suitcase. The report says Minaj "...was looking into the suitcase. Witness one grabbed the suitcase and as he was picking it up, he shoved the suitcase across the complainant's chin and lower lip." (WFAA)

The officers who responded to a hotel staffer's call observed, as stated in the report, there was "slight swelling and redness" to Nicki's chin. Additionally, it is noted that Nicki's teeth "struck the inside of her lower lip, causing the inside of the lower lip to cut and start to bleed." After she was checked by the paramedics, the MC told the officers she did not want to press charges. (Ace Showbiz)

It will be interesting to see what Nicki will have to say about the events that transpired since the Dallas Police department basically put her on blast and released the details that she denied.

Foxy Brown to Sue NY Over Legal Woes

Earlier this week, charges against female rapper Foxy Brown for the alleged mooning of her neighbor were thrown out by a New York judge. Most people would be happy with that result, but, Brown is none to happy with the judicial system and how she was treated.

In an interview with the NY Post, Brown's lawyer, Salvatore Strazzullo, said he was planning of filing the 100 million dollar lawsuit against the city of New York, claiming the rapper was treated “maliciously” by the Assistant District Attorney's office.

Strazzullo maintains that "(Foxy) she should have never been prosecuted for allegedly “mooning” her neighbor during a dispute in July of 2010 and that the case was a waste of taxpayers' money.".

Gucci Mane A Free Man, Talks About Life After Jail

After serving time for probation violation, Atlanta Rapper Gucci Mane is a free man, and has opened up about what his first moves were after getting out of prison:

"I got out like a day ago. First thing I did, I just got my feet planted on the ground," Gucci revealed in an interview. "Went back to the studio, banged out about five records. I got some great writing done, I got some new hits that people need to wait on...[In] ten years, hopefully I'll still be touring, making music, doing something that I love. Right now, rapping is the thing that I love. Maybe then, I'll have another passion." (Karma Loop TV)

After some legal hold ups, the rapper was released, and even hit several parties in a "Welcome Home" club celebration run:

Gucci Mane is home- no for real this time. After a few false starts, the "Freaky Gurl" rapper was freed from Fulton County Jail early Friday morning his lawyer confirmed for RapFix. During the 4th of July weekend reports swirled that the Atlanta-based rapper was released from a three-month jail stint stemming from a probation violation, but that was not so."Procedural holdups" delayed Gucci's release, but today all of the legal drama is seemingly behind him.

Gucci is hitting three parties in Georgia and Tennessee to celebrate with his fans. Friday night the singer, who makes people go Brrr, is performing at Club Fathom for a Welcome Home Party. The poster -- fittingly -- features Gucci with handcuffs. Saturday he travels to the Life Nightclub in Atlanta and on Sunday he appears at Atlanta's Velvet Room with boxer Floyd Maryweather, who is an aspiring rapper. (Rapfix, Rumorfix)

DOC: DMX Was NOT Smuggling Drugs

Several days after allegations that DMX had been smuggling drugs into an Arizona jail, a Department of Corrections spokesperson came forward and debunked those rumors, saying the only issue was with a failed drug test:

"He did not smuggle drugs into prison," states Marson. "He failed a drug test, I don't know what drugs he took, but that's it. He was due to be released today but will now be released on July 19th." (RumorFix)

The rapper, who has faced his fair share of legal woes, is now set to be released on July 19, 2011.

Lloyd Banks To Leave G-Unit...Not According to 50

After rumors that Lloyd Banks would be leaving G-Unit records for a career with Def Jam surfaced, 50 Cent has decided to shut down those rumors, claiming Def Jam has their own problems:

Even though 50 has championed G-Unit's independence, speculation has swirled about whether Banks would sign to Def Jam where former G-Unit president Sha Money XL now resides as the Senior VP of A&R. 50, without saying it directly, shot down the notion of a Def Jam deal, citing the label's supposed-financial woes. Recently, the legendary rap label has gone through a bit of restructuring with former head honcho L.A. Reid leaving and Barry Weiss stepping in as chairman and CEO. Regardless, Fif doesn't seem too optimistic for a future at the label. "Well, Def Jam, I'm not even sure what that system -- that system is not in a good space right now. They're like $80 million in the hole," he said, before laughing, "Don't tell them I told you." (MTV)

But these rumors are not baseless, with Banks saying last year that Def Jam had approached him:

"I mean, yeah, they been reaching out, Interscope" Banks confirmed in an interview. "And a few other labels, Def Jam, at this point man, like I said, I've been completely independent, we've sold over 200,000 units already through iTunes -- at this point, whatever makes sense, is the deal I'll go with. If it makes more sense to stay where I'm at, then I'll stay and be independent. If they drop that big bag, then we can talk. I don't ever want to shut no doors out so we'll see what happens in the near future." (Posse TV)

Def Jam A&R VP Sha Money XL, also a G-Unit affiliate, even confirmed he was trying to sign Banks:

"I tried to bring [Lloyd] Banks, but they chose EMI," Sha told radio host EI8HT. "The album was amazing but I know I could have did more at Def Jam because Banks is a star. He just needs the right people behind his music. He got 50 [Cent] behind him but I think the machine of Capitol/EMI, they just didn't know what they had. So, they just did my homie wrong. But I tried to bring Banks in." (Street Disciplez Radio)

If Banks decides to strike out on his own, it will be interesting to see the fate of G-Unit as a group.
