Ice-T & Mick Benzo Are Preparing To Launch A New Podcast Titled "Ice-T: Final Level"

Ice-T & Mick Benzo are launching a new podcast titled "Ice-T: Final Level". As reported by AllHipHop, it seems Ice T will be foraying into podcasting in the new year. The veteran emcee has teamed up with digital agency The Paragon Collective for a podcast titled "Ice-T: Final Level", which premieres on January 7th. "We believe Ice has one of the most earnest and distinct voices in the entertainment industry," said a rep for Paragon. "Whether he's rapping, acting or talking about the First Amendment, his fans appreciate what he has to say and what he stands for." The show will be co-hosted by Ice T's longtime manager Mick Benzo (of Sirius XM's "Zulu Beatz" hip-hop program). They'll be producing two podcasts each month, focussing on current affairs and including "special guest interviews from the entertainment world" as well as listener call-ins. They're seeking sponsorship in order to remain free to listeners as well, and have already been picked up by Squarespace and NatureBox. "Podcasting is a great next step for me and my guy. It's an uncensored medium, and it's a direct connection with my fans," says Ice. "Mick Benzo and I can explore any topic we're interested in without restrictions, from video games to philosophy to rap and rock... I also don't have to leave my crib." The first episode will air on Tuesday, January 7th via his website and iTunes. T will be discussing his experiences with fans who "cannot separate his rap persona from his character on Law & Order: SVU".

Lil B "Basedworld" Documentary To Be Released In 2014

Lil B is the subject of a new documentary called "Basedworld," set for a September 2014 release. Lil B capped off the year by releasing his extremely ambitious, 101-track mixtape, 05 Fuck Em, and while we can be sure to receive plenty of new music from the Based God in 2014, we will also be treated to a documentary on the rapper. Word of a "Basedworld" documentary began 3 years back, when a trailer surfaced for a doc with the title. Whether or not the initial preview has any relation to the movie currently in the works is not clear, but this one is definitely official, IMDB page and all. The project's listed director, Ethan Higbee, Instagrammed a photo from the editing room this week, which indicated that he was working with some footage of an interaction between T-Pain and the Based God which appeared online a few years back. According to the description, "[Basedworld] is a unique expose on the bay area rapper as he navigates his way through the world living the positive "based" lifestyle. This is an uplifting story of hope and perseverance and shines a light on one of america's brightest new stars." The doc is set to be released September 17th, 2014. Beyonce Slammed By NASA For Using Challenger Crash Audio In "XO"

Beyonce is being criticized for including audio at the beginning of "XO" which is taken from the Challenger space shuttle explosion. Beyonce's self-titled visual album took the world by storm in recent weeks, as the new mother showed off her curves and her voice throughout the LP. While the BeyHive fans were definitely pleased by the project, which has gone on to receive platinum certification from the RIAA, NASA is displeased with Bey because of a soundbite included in her "XO" record. "XO" opens with NASA public affairs officer Steve Nesbitt announcing that there is a major malfunction with the Challenger. The NASA Challenger Space Shuttle exploding within 72 seconds of takeoff in 1986. The tragedy resulted in the death of seven crew members. Now NASA employees have called out Beyonce for including the short clip, expressing their disappointment in her choice of sample. The widow of the Challenger Space Shuttle Commander Dick Scobee, June Scobee Rodgers, stated to ABC, "We were disappointed to learn that an audio clip from the day we lost our heroic Challenger crew was used in the song 'XO.' The moment included in this song is an emotionally difficult one for the Challenger families, colleagues and friends. We have always chosen to focus not on how our loved ones were lost, but rather on how they lived and how their legacy lives on today." A former NASA employee, Keith Cowing (who now runs NASAwatch.com) also slammed Beyonce for her decision, comparing it to using audio from 9/11. He's requested Beyonce remove the audio from the track. "This choice of historic and solemn audio is inappropriate in the extreme. The choice is little different than taking Walter Cronkite's words to viewers announcing the death of President Kennedy or 911 calls from the World Trade Center attack and using them for shock value in a pop tune," Cowing said. Beyonce has since responded to ABC in a statement. Read her statement below and watch the "XO" video. Was the soundbite inappropriate? "My heart goes out to the families of those lost in the Challenger disaster. The song 'XO' was recorded with the sincerest intention to help heal those who have lost loved ones and to remind us that unexpected things happen, so love and appreciate every minute that you have with those who mean the most to you. The songwriters included the audio in tribute to the unselfish work of the Challenger crew with hope that they will never be forgotten."

Rick Ross Beats Freeway Ricky Ross In Court

Rick Ross is allowed to keep his rap moniker after a judge sided with him in appeals court, on the grounds of the First Amendment. It looks as though the on-going battle between rapper Rick Ross and former drug lord Freeway Rick Ross has finally come to a close. It's been exhaustive, to say the least. In March a judge had ruled against Freeway Ricky claiming he took too long to file his suit against the MMG boss (he apparently was aware the rapper was using his name since 2006 but only filed his complaint in 2010), but the OG Rick Ross wasn't giving up, as he followed up in appeals court. However, Freeway Ricky's appeal wasn't quite as successful as he would have liked. THR reports that in his appeal, Freeway Rick Ross asked whether the rapper's work with a new record label could be considered as part of the same "single publication" as his previous work, or should be considered a "republication" that entitled the former kingpin to bring forth his claims yet again. In the end, judge Roger Boren dismissed the case under the First Amendment. "We recognize that Roberts' work—his music and persona as a rap musician—relies to some extent on plaintiff's name and persona," Judge Boren stated. "Roberts chose to use the name 'Rick Ross.' He raps about trafficking in cocaine and brags about his wealth. These were 'raw materials' from which Roberts' music career was synthesized. But these are not the 'very sum and substance' of Roberts' work."

Saigon Says Everybody Is On A Reality TV Show

The "Greatest Story Never Told" rapper says "if ya'll are gonna put me on a reality show anyway I might as well do it myself." Saigon recently spoke to VladTV about filming “Love & Hip Hop” and the nature of the reality TV show. The rapper, who first appeared as a recurring character on the series’ fourth season earlier this year, began with an explanation of his decision to join the cast. “I joined 'Love & Hip Hop' because it’s a reality show and that’s where the world is going and you want to stay in the loop when you’re trying to get your point across,” he said. “It’s not about what you’re doing, it’s all about how you do it.” The New York emcee continued with a comment that the show represents an opportunity to control his online footprint. “I think everybody’s on a reality show,” he said, “and I’ve said that before. If you don’t believe me, get into a fight in public and whatch how many cameras is on your ass. Get into an argument where you look like you’re about to get into a fight in public and everybody gonna pull their phone out. “But that’s content you can’t control, because it’s gonna get uploaded to the net. You could have a fight among your people, if there’s somebody with a camera there they’re gonna upload it and say 'Worldstar' and now ‘Q’ is getting paid for my fight,” he said in reference to the website’s owner, Lee ‘Q’ O’denat. “When I had a fight with Prodigy I didn't want that shit online, but it was all online. I talk to a girl, curse her out and she makes a video and goes on Worldstar, I don’t want that online. So if ya’ll are gonna put me on a reality show anyway I might as well do it myself and this way get back in the loop so I could make it conducive to putting my music out, ‘cause they were doing it to me anyway. I wake up, 'Yo, you’re all online, you’re all over the place,' and I’m like 'Huh?' And it’s a video somebody took and put it online." Describing the type of content that producers curate for the show, Saigon added that there’s an obvious motivation to capture the more dramatic parts of a cast member's life. “That’s the thing, reality TV is tricky because if you go on thinking you’re gonna be the nice guy, your shit won’t make the cutting room floor,” he said. “It is reality TV and people tune in for a reason. You can’t go into something that you know what it’s about thinking ‘Oh, I’m gonna reinvent this TV show,’ that’s bullshit. Even my moment on that show, I told them, I said ‘Look, I’m not in a good mood...me and homegirl is not in a good space,’ you know what I’m saying? There’s a lot going on with my son, there’s a lot going on and I didn’t wanna film, but you sign a contract.” Speaking to the nature of filming on a reality show, Saigon added that he didn't feel like he needed to act a certain way to be considered for the series. “I didn't look at it like, ‘Ok, you gotta be ratchet to get on 'Love & Hip Hop’ because I don’t believe that,” he said. “There’s some people on the show who conduct and carry themselves as they would in regular life, like myself.” Adding that the schedule of “Love & Hip Hop’s” filming can be extensive, Saigon also spoke to the fact that the show catches its cast in real-life scenarios. “When they tape you for six months they’re gonna find some moments where you’re not the happiest guy in the world,” he said. “They tape your life for six months, that shit ain’t no overnight shit. Not everyday, but three days a week, sometimes four days a week.” Earlier this month, Saigon told MTV that he's "always exposed [his] life to people." "I don't have Interscope Records, I don't have a major label," he said. "Me being independent, this is perfect for me because I've been putting my life out there, it's just that nobody was listening."

Fabolous Decodes His "S.O.U.L. Tape" Mixtape Covers

Brooklyn rap veteran Fabolous recently decoded the message behind his S.O.U.L. Tape underground collection and spoke on the motivation behind dropping its latest installment this past Christmas. According to Fab, there is a deep meaning behind each of his three S.O.U.L. Tape releases. "One, definitely because I was a New York artist and the evolution of those venues as well," Fab said when asked why he went with iconic, black-and-white images for his S.O.U.L. Tape series covers. "It started from Apollo and then Radio City and then I guess the only thing you can say bigger is Madison Square Garden. I wanted to show that, keep stepping up a notch, now with showing and telling. ... I just think holidays are a dope time to release free music where people can download and have it as something they can do over the holiday. Christmas is a great holiday for kids but the adults, maybe not as much. They don't get as much so maybe giving them a free tape is something they look forward to."

DMX Settles $1 Million Child Support Case

DMX settles a $1 million child support case with a mother of his children. DMX's legal laundry list is as long as any rapper in history, and one of the issues he's been struggling with for years is paying child support. X may now have some relief in the matter. According to TMZ, the former Ruff Ryders artist has settled his child support case with Patricia Trejo, a woman who claimed he fathered her daughter over a decade ago. Trejo had previously demanded $1 million in back child support payments however representatives for DMX say the dispute has been settled but declined to provide further details. DMX is currently the father of 11 children via multiple women. He talked about fathering his kids on the Dr. Phil Show back in September. "Yes I am," DMX said when asked if he was millions of dollars behind in child support payments. "And reason being because at the time I was making $13 million a year so if I'm making $13 million a year then I can pay that and I haven't made that in about 10 years so of course I'm behind in payments but the children are taken care of." X also talked about being a father to over 10 children and says that he's very much a part of their lives. "They're well taking care of and I'm a big influence in their lives. I love all of my children and I do see them and speak to them when I can. I do have a relationship with my children. I love my children... I think if you can provide, somewhat, monetarily for your kids and be there for them then you should have them."

Beyoncé's Self-Titled Album Illegally Downloaded 240,000 Times

Beyoncé's self-titled album, which dropped Dec. 13, sold just under a million copies in its first week, Billboard reports, but a BitTorrent file-sharing software revealed that her fifth-studio solo project was illegally downloaded nearly a quarter of a million times. "The usefulness of BitTorrent data is that it allows record labels to have an incredibly detailed insight into where their artists are popular – right down to the town," Gregory Mead, Musicmetric Chief Executive, said to Billboard. "Although the file-sharing numbers may be high, it will be possible to translate many of these into buyers." Billboard also reports that if those file-shared copies would've been purchased in the iTunes store at the sale price of $15.99, Beyoncé would've accumulated an additional $3.8 million.

Scarface Says Hip Hop Is Intentionally Being Dumbed Down

Scarface feels Hip Hop has become dumbed down because the genre was becoming too great. While appearing on The Combat Jack Show this week, Houston rapper Scarface shared the details of a conspiracy theory he feels directly involves today’s Hip Hop. According to the Geto Boys emcee, today’s music, particularly Hip Hop, is being dumbed down by those with power. “I be looking at shit like a conspiracy…That’s the way I feel about music, man,” Scarface said. “You know what I mean? I feel like the powers that be are intentionally dumbing down our craft, man. I feel like they dumbing us down. Because the dumbest shit I ever heard is on the radio right now.” He further elaborated on his conspiracy theory as he commented on “urban Hip Hop” versus “suburban Hip Hop,” and spoke on how “dumb” Hip Hop has become. Scarface later suggested that the powers that be are dumbing down the genre because it was becoming too great. “To paint the picture that I’m trying to paint to you guys is it seems like all our shit is sounding really stupid and really, really dumb. Really, really corny,” the Texas rapper said. “And then, you know, you got the other shit that sounds really, really [great]…I wanna say this shit as diplomatic and as responsible as I can…When urban Hip Hop sounds like this and suburban Hip Hop sounds like that, I kinda feel fucked up. You know? It’s like our shit fucked up and the powers that be pour salt on the wound…I don’t even look at it as a threat or it being too fucking powerful. I just look it as being too fucking great.” Scarface made similar comments earlier this year during an interview with Hardknock TV when he informed those watching that the people in control of Hip Hop are white and Jewish. "I feel like we losing it," he said. "I feel like the people that are in control of what Hip Hop does is so fucking White and so fucking Jewish and so they don't give a fuck about what the culture and the craft really is about."

E-40 Donates $10,000 To Salvation Army

E-40 says he's "trying to give back" to his community. E-40 has donated $10,000 to The Salvation Army in his hometown, Vallejo, California, according to timesheraldonline.com. The rapper explained that his donation stemmed from childhood experiences with the organization. "My mother and father divorced when I was [eight]," E-40 said. "They did what they could do. When times got heavy, me and mom had to come over here [to the Salvation Army]...I knew I had to come out to my soil. I'm trying to give back." E-40 also spoke about how giving back is something everyone can do. "I'm no better than anyone else," 40 said. "I'm just playing my part. I can't save the world, but I do what I can to save my community."

YMCMB May Be Expanding With A Sports Agency

It looks as though Cash Money/Young Money may be getting into a new business venture. As YMCMB continue to expand their business, choosing to sign artists who not only represent hip-hop but other genres as well, it looks like they want to step outside of the music industry all together. Following in the footsteps of Jay Z, the Cash Money label is looking to launch their very own sports agency. Cash Money Records recently filed trademark applications for their new business venture, which they're hoping to call "Visionaire Sports Group." According to documents filed this past October with the the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, "Visionaire Sports Group" will relate to "sports agency services, namely, management, representation and promotion of professional athletes; business management of sports people; talent recruiting services in the field of sports." According to Inside The League, the Young Money family may be looking to take on athletes to represent as early as the beginning of 2014. Lil Wayne's Young Money Records has apparently already invested in an already existing sports agency, Play 2 Win Sports, Inc.,-- thus it remains unclear whether Cash Money or Young Money are looking to team up with an existing agency or make waves with one of their own. Jay Z's Magna Carta Holy Grail roll-out with Samsung received mixed reviews when it occurred this past July. It turns out, it really wasn't too popular with the masses, as a new survey indicates. While the deal with Samsung netted the rapper a cool $5 million in sales, not to mention a guaranteed platinum album, it seems that the whole partnership didn't actually benefit Hov's image in the public's eye. The Business Insider reports on new research done by celebrity branding expert Jeetendr Sehdev, which indicates that Jay Z's Samsung deal was the second least popular celebrity marketing tool in 2013, for those aged 13-31-- a target demographic. (If you're curious what the #1 least popular celebrity partnership was, it was Justin Bieber teaming up with nail polish brand OPI). 1,000 millennials (aka Generation Y) were surveyed and the results showed that Jay Z was among those celebrities least influential when making purchase decision. The survey included 80 celebrities, ranging from the likes of Tom Brady to Hilary Clinton. Sehdev reports that while Hov's brand still remains popular with the youth, it's missing one essential element: authenticity. The survey found that Jay scored 70% lower in categories of trustworthiness and honesty than celebrities like Morgan Freeman and Jennifer Lawrence. The young generation places a high importance on truth and social goals beyond fattening your own pockets. "Millennials question the exact nature of Jay Z’s role in the artistic process," Sehdev said. "Does he really write his own songs? Is he choosing the artists to collaborate with, or is he just the face of a money-making empire?" Sedhev continued, "Millennials questions his approach to loyalty, whether it be to a business deal or his fans. His motivations to just make money can be viewed by this audience as self-centered, even if they may be business savvy." Among the issues the millennial generation find with Hov, his penchant for naming luxury brands (on MCHG he named 8 different brands more than 20 times), as well as business ventures outside the sphere of music seem to play part (for example, Jay sold his stake in the Brooklyn Nets less than a year after moving the team his former home of Brooklyn).

Kanye West Discusses Profanity In His Lyrics

Kanye West talks about the profanity & profundity in his lyrics in a recent interview, before being impressed with his own statement. Kanye West recently declared at the Toronto stop of his "Yeezus" that he would stop talking shit for six months, “You’re just gonna have to run back the interviews and shit if you wanna hear some realness," 'Ye said on stage. We'll have to wait and see how this pans out, but in a recent interview for the Rickey Smiley Show Kanye was relatively low-key when it comes to shit-talking. Kanye seemed to be in very good spirits when the Ricky Smiley crew shot him a series of "This or That" questions. Following which, Kanye shared a few words on his lyrical ability and his affinity for cursing. "[My lyrics] are already studied with a magnifying glass," Kanye said, before adding, "I don't think there's a person who dissects their lyrics more than me." "This is a mission that I'm on," West explained, referring to Yeezus. "I was on 'Ellen,' and she was like 'It's cursin' here.' I think it's more profane to have an album with no profanity that's not talkin' about nothin' than to be as profound with profanity." After making the statement, 'Ye was impressed by his own alliteration. "I mean, it was cold because it was an alliteration also. The p-r-o and then the f and everything. It was too cold. Too fresh," Yeezy stated. Check out the interview below

50 Cent Would Like To Collaborate With Leonardo DiCaprio

50 Cent is looking to work with Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio. While discussing his new fitness book Formula 50 during a recent appearance on daytime talk show "Rachel Ray", Ferrari F. Fifty revealed his desire to collaborate with actor Leonardo DiCaprio. In the course of his 8-year film career, he's worked with Forest Whitaker, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Terrence Howard and more, but has yet to appear alongside Leo D. "Leonardo DiCaprio… he don't miss" said the Queens, New York emcee. "He's pretty good... I just saw his new project Wolf Of Wall Street... private screening... he was in there with me. I was like 'This is really cool' ...I'm on his fan list right now." This probably isn't an unrealistic goal, seeing as 50 recently received a phone call from Robert De Niro that led to his appearance in the new film Last Vegas. "It was really cool" Fifty said. "It was one of those things like - I don't know, to me when he talks on the telephone it feels like - I've seen him in a lot of movies, but it's [still] like the guy from like Goodfellas." The full title of 50's new book is Formula 50: A 6-Week Workout and Nutrition Plan That Will Transform Your Life. It was co-authored by Jeff O'Connell and focusses on metabolic resistance training. The LOX Talk "The Trinity," Hope To Drop New Album In 2014

The LOX discuss their surprise EP "The Trinity," their upcoming album, and the New York rap scene with Hot 97. The LOX were circulating on the web last week, when they randomly decided to release a new EP, The Trinity. Now that the project is out, they're doing a little bit of promo for it. Sheek Louch, Jadakiss and Styles P all hit up Hot 97's Morning Show to discuss the EP, the status of their album, the New York rap scene and more. The LOX used the drop-a-project-out-of-nowhere tactic following in the footsteps of Beyonce. As Jadakiss explains, "It felt right." He continued to give Jay Z's wifey a shout out. "In this business, timing is everything. The gut feeling is important. And taking chances is always great. It’s like a gamble. Big shout out to Beyonce, she paved the way on a bigger scale." Kiss added, "We ain't do it because she did it. She made it better." Nonetheless, fans are itching for a proper full-length studio album from The LOX, who have been MIA on that front since the 2000 release We Are The Streets. Sheek says, "Hopefully top of the year," we'll receive their new LP. As they discuss it more, the blame gets put on industry politics. Jadakiss also throws shade on Def Jam for the hold up on his own solo effort (see: Jeezy). Styles P explains, "The lack of our album is due to politics, but we’ll get around the politics and you will get a body of music. [The Trinity] was like saying, ‘Hey we here, and screw the politics, now deal with us.’ It all kind of worked. Now everything is just flowing right." The three emcees also debate the current New York rap landscape with Ebro and Cipha Sounds. While some say that the New York rap scene is on a decline (Trinidad James, for example), each rapper shouts out NY emcees they're feeling. Among them, Troy Ave, Joey Bada$$ and Mack Wilds are named. Listen to the full interview including the debate below.

Big Sean Says He Reminded Kanye West Of Biggie When He Rapped For First Time

Big Sean reveals that 'Ye was reminded of Biggie when hearing Sean rap for the first time, which lead to his signing with G.O.O.D. Music. By now, the story of how Big Sean got signed to Kanye West is pretty familiar to the rap world-- Sean Don was working at a radio station in Detroit at the time, when 'Ye came through. Big Sean was encouraged by friends to spit a 16s for the rapper, and low and behold, Kanye thought it was dope. The rest, as they say, is history. Recently Big Sean paid a visit to The Rickey Smiley Show, where he talked about the incident and how, since then, 'Ye hasn't really signed people right off one rap like he did with Sean. As the Detroit rapper explains, he had a special something to him which apparently reminded Kanye of Notorious B.I.G. "I've been with Kanye when a lot of people rapped for him," Big Sean. "I was always like, 'Damn, man. You ain't ever sign nobody else that rapped for you. Why'd you sign me?' Obviously I've been getting better over time, just being around him and Jay [Z], just legends. He was like, 'Man, the crazy thing about it was you were clever and witty and all that, but it was your voice. Your tone of voice was crazy.' As different as it is, he was like, 'I haven't heard a tone of voice that shocked me like that since I heard Biggie.' He was like, 'You don't sound like Biggie in any way, but when I heard you spit, it did something to me like when I first heard Biggie.'" As the Finally Famous rapper continues, he reveals that Jay Z wasn't feeling his style in the beginning, before later having a change of heart and specifically requesting Sean's appearance on "Clique." Specifically, Ross spoke about the lead single from his upcoming Mastermind album, "The Devil Is A Lie," featuring Jay Z. "Me and Jay Z in the studio, it's not just the beat on loop. We talkin' some shit. We talkin' some shit, nigga." Ross compared the track to "FuckWithMeYouKnowIGotIt," his collaboration with Jay Z from Hov's Magna Carta Holy Grail. "After you make a record as big as "YouKnowIGotIt," it has to be on that level, and I feel that's what this record is. It's a dope record." "'Devil is a Lie,'... it's another one of them records," he said. "[Jay Z and I are] 6-0, 7-0 on the joints. It's for the streets. Kanye West Sued Over Sample In "Bound 2"

Kanye West is facing a lawsuit from a former child star over the sample used in "Bound 2." Kanye West's "Bound 2" was definitely one of the more well-received tracks off Yeezus, thus Ye has gone ahead to push it as his next single. However, it looks like the track is facing some legal trouble, as a former child star is suing Yeezy over a sample. 56-year old Ricky Spicer filed a lawsuit yesterday in Manhattan Supreme Court which claims that Kanye used his vocals without his permission on the sample in "Bound 2." Spicer is referring to his childhood group the Ponderosa Twins Plus One and their record "Bound" in which he was the lead vocalist, Rolling Stone reports. Spicer apparently recorded the track and the now-familiar hook "fallin' in love" when he was just 12-years old. The suit states, "Mr. Spicer's voice is sampled exactly as he recorded it and his voice… is heard several times," Spicer is demanding that Mr. West pay up for the use of his vocals, or cease and desist with the single. record labels Roc-A-Fella Records, Universal Music Group, Island Def-Jam Music and Rhino Entertainment are also named as defendants in the lawsuit. Compare the original Ponderosa Twins Plus One track and Kanye's version below.

Come thru, Come thru, come thru… What exactly happens on "Drake Night" is something we're going to have to wait and see. Other than that, it's anybody's guess as to how the Raptors plan to honor their "Global Ambassador." We'll assume Drake will actually be at the game as well. If he's not there for "Drake Night," the Raptors can go ahead and keep their stupid t-shirt.
