Mariah Carey Signs with Epic Records,Reunites with L.A. Reid

Mariah Carey has signed a fresh new deal with EPIC records, which finds her working with L.A. Reid once again. Mariah Carey did not have the best 2014. Despite releasing a solid late career record, the iconic singer experienced a record low in album sales, with Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse still sitting at just over 100,000 sold. She also split with husband and father to her children Nick Cannon, but she's ready to start a new page with a new deal, which pairs her once again with L.A. Reid. Carey was not in the best place in 2003 either, but signing with Island/Def Jam and working with Reid that year resulted in her extremely successful comeback album, The Emancipation Of Mimi. Her new deal is with L.A.'s new home at EPIC records, and while it's not the lucrative offer she was looking for (according to sources, her request for a $3 Million advance was not met), it should ultimately be a better place for her. Mariah will re-release her 1998 compilation #1s (likely with quite a few new additions, though unfortunately nothing from her last project) later this year. Before then, she'll have a residency at Las Vegas' Caesar's Palace in promotion of the album.

Gorillaz Creator Confirms their Return

Gorillaz artist Jamie Hewlett confirms that his and Damon Albarn's project is returning this year. In their heyday, pseudo-cartoon band Gorillaz collaborated with rappers from Del Tha Funkee Homosapien to Snoop Dogg to Andre 3000, and now it looks like they'll be returning after a hiatus. The "band," actually just the brainchild of illustrator Jamie Hewlett and Blur's Damon Albarn, have been absent since 2011's The Fall, but yesterday, Hewlett posted some new Gorillaz artwork on his Instagram, and responded to a fan's query about the group's status with, "Yes. Gorillaz Returns.”

YG & Ty Dolla Sign Allegedly Assaulted a Man at an Australian Nightclub

YG and Ty Dolla $ign are facing assault allegations from a fellow club goer in Australia. YG and Ty Dolla $ign are facing allegations from a fellow club goer, after the duo apparently invaded the man's space while they're were chilling at a Melbourne club. TMZ reports today that the two hip-hop artists visited an Australian nightclub last Sunday. Apparently when they rolled in, they took over the V.I.P. area of the club, and those who were already occupying the V.I.P were kicked out-- however one particular club goer refused to leave, and so he got kicked and punched in the head by Ty and YG. Alternate sources say that the rappers did not put a hand on the club goer, rather, it was the club's security guards. Cops later arrived and shut down the club. No one is arrested, but the police are reportedly investigating the situation. We'll keep you posted if anything results from this.

T.I. On Iggy Azalea's Twitter Beefs: "I Think She Should Focus On What Got Her Here"

T.I. comments on Iggy Azalea's recent Twitter battles, suggesting she should keep her head in the game. Iggy Azalea has always been pretty vocal towards her haters on social media, but the last few months have certainly spawned more feuds than usual for the Australian rapper. Iggy's gone head-to-head with the similarly filter-less Azealea Banks, HOT 97's resident troll Ebro Darden, and most recently clothing brand Steve Madden over the last little while, with the rapper's constant controversies seeming to take precedence over her music. Azalea's mentor, T.I. spoke with TMZ about his artist's recent Twitter activity, suggesting the "Fancy" star worry more about her talents than her naysayers. "Absolutely not," Tip told TMZ when asked if Iggy should bother engaging with detractors on Twitter. "I think she should focus on what got her here. That's her music, her performing, and continue to just present her talents to the world." "It's just like asking Tom Brady if he should be commenting on deflate-gate," he continued. "He should be worried about the big game on Sunday. Speaking of big games, the Grammys are on their way, and Azalea is nominated in plenty of categories, including rap album of the year. While she's likely getting her head in the game for the big event, she'll likely be presented with a few Twitter battles after the event depending on the results.

Jay Z to purchase Music Streaming Service for $56 million

Jay Z's company places a bid on a Swedish music streaming company for $56 million. Jay Z is about to throw his hat in to the music streaming service ring. The music mogul will likely compete with services like Beats Music, Google Play and Spotify after making a bid on the Scandinavian company Aspiro, which owns the streaming service WiMP. Reports say that Hova's company, Project Panther, placed a bid on Aspiro for a cool $56 million in cash, or 464 million Swedish crowns. While the deal isn't completely final yet, it's reportedly been encouraged by the company's board of directors, and the main shareholder of Aspiro has accepted the offer- it is now subject to a shareholder's agreement. Thus everything will be formally finalized in the near future. Project Panther had reportedly been following the music streaming company for some time, and said it was "an innovative high-quality company with strong future growth potential". For those unfamiliar with WiMP, it's a streaming service that is increasing in popularity in Europe. We'll have to see where Hov takes it. [via HipHopNMore]

Suge Knight allegedly Ran Over a Man with His Car Today

Several witnesses say Suge Knight ran over a man with his car in L.A. while shooting a video today. It has not been a good year for Suge Knight. In the past twelve months, he's been shot and been arrested on robbery charges, and now he could very well be facing a count of vehicular manslaughter. TMZ reports that Knight ran over a man with his car in L.A. today, possibly killing him. According to the gossip site, a video shoot featuring Knight, The Game, Dr. Dre and Ice Cube was going down when Suge got into an altercation with two cast members. After this, he got into his car and put it in reverse, at which point several witnesses say he ran over a bystander. The victim is allegedly named Terry Carter. In a video obtained by TMZ, you can hear a man describing the situation while looking on at EMTs trying to resuscitate a man lying on the ground. The video has since been removed, most likely for legal reasons. Stay tuned for updates.

Chance the Rapper says Frank Ocean,Andre 3000 & J. Cole will appear on his Debut Album

In a new interview with GQ, Chance The Rapper spills some beans on his debut album, namely that Frank Ocean, Andre 3000 & J. Cole all appear on it. Chance The Rapper's gotten himself some pretty famous fans. In a new interview with GQ (check out a pic from the photoshoot above), the Chicago native spoke on his yet-to-be-titled debut album, revealing that Frank Ocean, Andre 3000 and J. Cole all make appearances on it. Perhaps unwilling to say anything else about his commercial debut, Chance spent the rest of the interview speaking on The Social Experiment, his backing band/hip-hop collective that aims to be a "peaceful and positive extension of a real, grungy aesthetic." Chance says they've been working on spicing up their live shows: "The musical-theater aspect of the show that we want to do is a lot about exclusivity. I think creating a space that you can only see in the moment is really important. I like the fact that some of your favorite Broadway musicals are not made into movies." Stay tuned for more info on Chance's debut album.

The other day we saw a picture of King Louie and Kanye West posted up in the studio, after King L received that coveted invite to go work on Ye's new album at his home in Hollywood. Of course you'd expect some of the G.O.O.D. family to also receive those invites, including former beefing partners Pusha T and Cons. HipHopWired reports that Consequence and Pusha Ton set past issues aside in order to join forces for Kanye's as-of-yet-untitled new album. Cons told HHW, "All G.O.O.D. in 2015. Pusha [T] and I deaded everything and we creatively vibed with Kanye for this new LP." They even posed for a picture. Kanye's seventh studio album has been kept under wraps, although the rapper did give Ellen the premiere of his "Only One" music video today. When it came to discussing his album with Ellen, he didn't say much. We'll keep you posted as more Yeezy information rolls in.

Full Lil Wayne/Cash Money Lawsuit Surfaces Online

Check out the full 21-page lawsuit against Cash Money. If you need some not-so-light reading today, you can have a look at the 21-page lawsuit from Lil Wayne, against Cash Money. After reporting on the suit yesterday, which is for $51 million, all the documents from the lawsuit have now surfaced online. Tunechi is suing Cash Money for breaching his contract, after they failed to pay up a total of $10 million for his work on Tha Carter V. In addition to wanting out of his CM contract, he would like to be joint copyright owner of all the Young Money recordings. Plus $51 million. The lawsuit indicates all the faults from Cash Money, at length. You can read up on the two sections which specifically reference the $10 milli Wayne is owed, or headmto check out the full PDF. In more Lil Wayne/Cash Money news, apparently if Cash Money antes up the money he's owed, Weezy would be forced to stick with the label. TMZ reports that Universal is pushing Cash Money to settle, and they plan on stepping on to give Wayne the $10 million. If the label does pay, then there is no breach of contract which basically makes Wayne's lawsuit void. We'll keep you updated as the legal battle continues to unfold. [via MissInfo]

Kanye West says He doesnt have a Title for his New Album Yet

anye West reveals his album title has not been set yet, and speaks on his family with Ellen DeGeneres. Kanye West sat down for an interview with Ellen today, as we learned earlier in the week. The rapper did not reveal the title of his forthcoming album, and that's because he doesn't have one yet. However, he did give Ellen the first look on his "Only One" music video, directed by Spike Jonze and starring his daughter North West. After premiering the music video for his lead single, Ye spoke with Ellen about his family and business, and how his attitude has changed since getting married and having a child. "I think I'm a better human being because of her and because of my daughter. I have always someone to think about going home to, and something for me, to not only be brave for what I want to do for humanity, but also to be more protective of myself for my family. 'Cause there's things I've done in the past that seemed negative, but I was really jumping in front of the tank for other people or for culture in a way. So now I always have to have that in my mind, that I have a family I have to protect to," Kanye said. When asked if he and Kim will be having more kids, Kanye simply replies, "yeah, we're trying." Finally, before the interview caps off, Ellen asks Ye what his new album title is, and he explains, "I don't know yet, we're still trying to find it, try to find the vibe. This transition from what I felt when I did Yeezus to what I did now, we're just creating, so we haven't found it yet." So there you have it.

Rihanna,Kanye West & Paul McCartney reportedly to perforn "four Five seconds" at the 2015 grammys

Rihanna, Kanye West, and Paul McCartney are reportedly performing at this year's Grammys. We haven’t heard much from Rihanna since 2012’s Unapologetic album, but after dropping off “FourFive Seconds” with Kanye West and Paul McCartney last weekend, Rih Rih is getting back to business. To make her comeback official, Rih Rih will be reportedly taking the stage at this year’s Grammy’s and performing her new single alongside Kanye West and Paul McCartney, according to a close source from The Sun newspaper. The source states, “Rihanna’s seriously pleased to have bagged a big slot at The Grammys and two huge names to kick off her comeback.” Take note that this hasn’t been confirmed by either camps, but I can most definitely see this happening. After all, the record itself will probably be up for a Grammy come next year with the likes of these three on it. Look for the performance and the rest of the Grammy's to go down Sunday, February 8th. Set your DVR's today. [Via]

Lil Wayne Sues Birdman's Cash Money for $51 million

Lil Wayne has filed a lawsuit against Birdman's Cash Money label, and he's seeking $51 million from his label boss. Lil Wayne kept to his word, and his filed a lawsuit against Birdman/Cash Money in an effort to get out of his contract. The other week when we initially reported on Weezy's plan to sue his father, it was thought that he'd sue for the sum of $8 million, plus freedom from the label. As it turns out, Wayne is seeking a bit more than just $8 million. The lawsuit has been obtained by TMZ (duh), and it reportedly states that Birdman breeched Wayne's contract by withholding tens of millions of dollars he's owed by Cash Money as a result of the delayed album Tha Carter 5. Tunechi claims that because he's not being paid what he's owed, he's allowed to walk from their contract. He's not just seeking his freedom though, Wayne's suing Birdman to the tune of $51 million, and he is asking the judge to declare him joint copyright holder of all Young Money recordings. Apparently Lil Wayne was supposed to receive an $8 million advance when he began working on C5 in December 2013, and another $2 million after completing the album, however thus far he's received zero dollars.

Ludacris Wins Primary Custody of his Daughter

Ludacris has won primary custody of his one year old daughter, whose mother is Tamika Fuller. As we reported last year, Ludacris fathered a child with Tamika Fuller late in 2013, and after claims arose last year that he couldn't pay his child support, the rapper's now won primary custody of his daughter. Cai Bella Bridges, who's now a little over a year old, will now be spending most of her time with her recently-married father. Luda spoke to TMZ about the judge's ruling, saying, "I am gratified that the judge found me to be the most fit and proper parent to have primary physical custody of our beautiful daughter." The judge made the decision after hearing testimonies from both parents and hearing a report from an independent expert.

Nick Minaj's ex,Safaree Samuels,admits he didn't ghostwrite for her

Safaree Samuels, Nicki Minaj's ex-boyfriend, goes back on his claim that he wrote raps for his ex. Towards the end of last year, we all learned of Nicki Minaj's breakup with her longtime boyfriend Safaree Samuels via their very public fallout. One of the most attention-grabbing aspects of that breakup was Samuels' claim that he had previously written some of Nicki's rhymes, which clearly didn't sit well with the Pinkprint rapper. Now, in a new series of tweets, Samuels goes back on his claim, apologizing and showing nothing but love towards Minaj. Read them below.

Benzino Attempted to Bring Loaded Gun through Airport Security

Benzino attempted to bring a loaded 9 mm gun through airport security, to no avail. We don't report on the former Love & Hip-Hop star Benzino much, and when we do, it's usually because he's in trouble with the law. This is the case again, as Benzino attempted to go through airport security with a loaded gun. Law enforcement sources say that Benzino was going through airport security at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Tuesday. He put his carry-on bag on the conveyor belt, and a TSA worker noticed something suspect. When he opened Benzino's bag, he found a loaded 9 mm gun with 7 rounds in the magazine (photo above). Benzino didn't get to board his flight to L.A., instead, he was escorted to jail, where he got released on a bail of $3,000.

Migos Criticized for donating $1000 to Atlanta GA high school

igos and Quality Control donate $1000 to an Atlanta high school, and face criticism for it on Twitter. Usually, donating some money to a charitable cause isn't something you can criticize, but in Migos' case, people found a way to hate on their choice to give $1000 to an Atlanta high school. Yesterday, the trio posted a picture on their Instagram (below) of them and some other Quality Control artists holding a giant check made out to Booker T. Washington high school, and since posting it, they've been called out by many who think they should've been more generous. Among those calling out the Migos was Charlemagne Tha God, who named them the "Donkey Of The Day" on The Breakfast Club this morning. Migos clearly got word of this, as they tweeted at him. Read their exchange below. [via] Tags: migo

First Week Sales numbers in for Joey Bada$$ "B4.Da.$$" & Lupe Fiasco's "Tetsuo & Youth"

Here are the official first week tallies for Joey Bada$$ and Lupe Fiasco's new albums. Last week, a young star and a down-on-his-luck veteran both released intelligent, career-revitalizing albums, but who sold more? It was predicted that Joey Bada$$ would sell 50,000-55,000 copies of B4.Da.$$, and Lupe Fiasco would do slightly worse with Tetsuo & Youth (30,000-35,000), and now the official numbers have arrived from Hits Daily Double. Both albums finished within the predicted range, with Bada$$' doing 50,965 and Fiasco's selling 32,000. That puts them at numbers four and ten, respectively, on the Billboard 200 this week. In other chart news, J. Cole's 2014 Forest Hills Drive is still in the top 20 at number 14, and Nicki Minaj is still holding on at number eleven with The Pinkprint. [via]

Dr. Dre has signed a New Rapper named Justin Mohrle

Dallas native Justin Mohrle is being groomed to be Dr. Dre's next big rap star. Dr. Dre took Kendrick Lamar under his wing in 2012 when the then-rising rapper signed to Aftermath, and now K. Dot is veritable rap star and hip-hop darling. Although Dre's musical output may not be what it once is, he's still keeping his foot firmly within the rap game by forever signing the next best thing. Today, Dallas-based D Magazine profiled who's next for Dre's Aftermath, and it's a white kid hailing from Dallas, Texas. We're still wondering when Jon Connor is getting his break, though? Whatever the case may be, it sounds like the new Aftermath signee, Justin Mohrle or JT as his friends call him, is still in the very early stages of career development. He's not allowed to talk on what exactly he's been working on with Dr. Dre since moving to L.A. in the summer of 2014. Much of his old music has also been wiped from the internet, and obviously the fact that he was signed to Aftermath was kept under wraps for the most part. However, D Magazine does provide you with some necessary info to get better acquainted to Dr. Dre's new protege. Apparently the D.O.C. was the one who connected Justin with Dre, after The D.O.C. passed along a demo the 23-year old did. The rapper was then summoned to Cali by Dr. Dre and has been "spending marathon 13-hour writing and recording sessions." As far as the people we do know he's worked with: King Mez, BJ The Chicago Kid and Gwen Stefani are all named. According to his Instagram, he's also touched base with producer S1 and Xzibit. The D.O.C. told the magazine, "JT and I worked on a couple songs; Dre fell in love with the songs; Dre stole the songs from the kid, because he wanted to put them out as a unit. That’s the way this house is rolling. We’re all putting our energy toward building another classic for The Good Doctor. Then he’s going to take his time to help us build a classic for the youngster." Read the full profile on Justin Mohrle here. Stay tuned, as the article says Mohrle won't be releasing new music until Christmas.

Cipha Sounds Leaving Hot 97!?

Cipha Sounds is the third HOT 97 personality to leave the station over the last year. HOT 97 has been a presence in New York hip hop culture for decades, and the many of the on-air personalities and DJs have been around since the 90s. So far, within the last year, we've seen the departure of beloved talents like Angie Martinez and Mister Cee, and as of today, yet another OG in the radio game is bidding the station farewell. Cipha Sounds has decided to part ways with HOT 97, airing his frustrations with the station on a recent episode of the Juan Epstein podcast. While Cypha transferred from the morning show to Angie's 3 PM slot following her departure, he apparently never felt comfort or support from the station, and has decided to move on. HOT 97 has released an official statement on the matter, with a press release reading, "Effective immediately, Cipha Sounds is no longer with WQHT HOT 97 FM. We wish him well on his future endeavors.” Cipha gave his own final words on Instagram today, hinting at big plans ahead. View his post below. After 17 years, I'm leaving Hot 97. I¹m changing my relationship status from "it¹s complicated" to "single". It¹s been an amazing ride - from intern to weekends to morning show host to fill Angie¹s seat in afternoons. Many years of incredible, life-changing experiences and enough amazing memories to last five lifetimes. The next move is already underway and I promise it's going to be huge. Kanye West & King Louie were in the Studio Together

Kanye West and King Louie were in the studio recently. Will Louie land another feature on Yeezy's album? Yeezus was filled with unexpected moments, but King Louie's feature on "Send It Up" was one of the biggest surprises. Since guesting on the experimental record, Louie has continued to release some of Chicago's best music, and may or may not have inked a deal with Drake's OVO Sound label (if not he's campaigning pretty hard for it). Well, it seems like the magic of "Send It Up" may be recreated on Ye's impending project, as Louie shared a picture of himself and the McCartney-collaborating rapper on Instagram today. While there's no confirmation on what the two were up to in the lab, we're guessing that the collab will land in Kanye's hands rather than Louie's (but after "Nobody", who knows), so here's hoping it makes the final cut.

Lil Wayne Plans to take Young Money Artists with him If He Leaves Cash Money

While TMZ originally reported Wayne was suing Birdman for $8 million, they've now received reports that Wayne also wants to take his Young Money roster with him when he leaves. Cortez Bryant, Wayne's manager, spoke on the Wayne Cash Money rift via Instagram. Part of Bryant's two part statement stated "And for all our other artists that's been loyal from the beginning and patiently waiting on their number to be called! That's coming too!"He would go on to mention Jae Millz, Gudda Gudda, Cory Gunz, Lil Twist, and Shanell, while mentioning Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Tyga in a previous message. TMZ reports that Cash Money's distribution deal with all the Young Money artists will most likely force the issue to be resolved in court. [via TMZ]

P. Reign Confirms Drake is Working on a new Mixtape

According to P. Reign, a Drizzy mixtape is actually on the way. Remember back in late November when Toronto Raptors’ guard Demar DeRozan spilled the bean on a possible Drake mixtape that was supposedly dropping in early 2015? Well, it looks like that bish is really happening as Drake’s good buddy and OVO affiliate, P. Reign, confirmed the news with Karen Civil recently. “I know Drake’s dropping a mixtape that I’ve already heard a lot of and it’s crazy,” P. Reign said. “I think it's some of the best I’ve heard from him in my life and I already know off Drake’s mixtape the world is going to shake." There’s no information yet as for when we’ll get to hear this anticipated project, but when we do I'm sure it’ll break the internet. Better yet, this project will be followed by Drizzy's upcoming album, Views From The 6. Stay tuned, Drizzy 'bout to have "Spring 2015 poppin'". We'll definitely keep you posted on any further details that surface.

Kevin Gates Announces "I Don't Get Tired" Tour

Kevin Gates has announced some new U.S. tour dates for February and March. Kevin Gates has been in the news for everything other than his music recently, even though he released one of 2014's best mixtapes only a month back. Gates recently wiped his Instagram of all videos, which suggests he may be putting the over-sharing behind him and focusing on rap. This weekend he announced that he's also getting ready to go on tour, which is great news, as his live show is just as exhilarating as his songwriting. The "I Don't Get Tired" tour will take the Baton Rouge rapper across the southern states, kicking off February 20th in Montgomery, AL, and wrapping up March 15th in Shreveport, LA. We know that the demand for Gates in this territory is insanely strong, so he shouldn't have a hard time selling out all of the venues on the list (fun fact: Gates was allegedly paid by Live Nation to change the date of his Philadelphia stop when it was getting in the way of Lil Wayne Vs. Drake ticket sales). Check out the full list of dates below.

2 Chainz Wants To Run For Mayor Of College Park, Georgia

2 Chainz reveals his eventual goal of running for mayor of his hometown, College Park, Georgia. By now, it's a well-known fact that 2 Chainz, despite whatever personality comes across in his music, is a very smart dude. He graduated Alabama State University with a 4.0 GPA, and just last week was seen schooling Nancy Grace in a debate on marijuana. Now, the rapper has revealed that he has political aspirations, namely a desire to be the mayor of his hometown. Speaking to XXL, Tity 2 Necklace said, “I’m a musician, not a politician. I’m supposed to be running for mayor in College Park [a city near Atlanta]. I got everybody wishing. I’m really gonna do this little mayor thing in College Park. I’m just trying to make sure I have the right qualifications.” While this may seem pretty far-fetched at this point, Chainz sounds like he'll be patient with it, so he may be able to avoid a Wyclef Jean/President of Haiti situation. “We’ll see where the future lies for me," he said, "But you know, everything I do gotta be organic.”

Kanye West Reveals Why He Doesn't Smile in Photos

We now know why Kanye West is forever unsmiling in his paparazzi photos. Kanye West has been showing his face on the web a bit more than usual this past weekend, with a new collaboration with Rihanna and Paul McCartney on deck, and an appearance with Kim Kardashian at the BET Honors, where he took home the Visionary award. During another recent appearance at the Daily Front Row's Fashion Los Angeles Awards, Kanye spoke on his infamous non-smile-move in the majority of his paparazzi-taken photographs. Simply stated, Ye looks cooler when he's not smiling. Kanye was an honorary guest present at the fashion award show, and revealed, "Back when I was working on Yeezus, I saw this book from the 1800s and it was velvet-covered with brass and everything,” West said. “I looked at all these people’s photos and they look so real and their outfits were incredible and they weren’t smiling and people, you know the paparazzi, always come up to me, ‘Why you not smiling?’ and I think, not smiling makes me smile… When you see paintings in an old castle, people are not smiling cause it just wouldn’t look as cool." Peep a few photos of that very rare Kanye smile up top. [via HHW]

Are Lil Wayne & Young Thug going at Each Other?

Lil Wayne and Young Thug seemed to be sending subliminal shots at one another over their competing events last night. By this point, you're fully aware that Lil Wayne and Birdman are not on the best of terms, as Wayne has expressed a desire to leave Cash Money, claiming Birdman won't release his completed studio album, Tha Carter V. This weekend, the rift was taken to the next level when reports that Weezy was suing his father figure for $8 million arose, and last night it seems Young Thug may have become involved in the beef. Thug, who happens to cite Wayne as his sole influence, has of course been pretty close with Birdman over the last year. He released the critically acclaimed Rich Gang mixtape with Bird, and can be seen by his side at pretty much any event he attends. It just so happens Birdman was hosting his own party last night, in direct competition with an event Wayne was holding. Weezy took to Twitter to announce his Sorry 4 The Wait 2 party at the the Versace mansion, but made sure to tell fans not to attend the Rich Gang event at LIV, closing his tweet with "Go to LIV for what?". While the tweet was seemingly aimed at Birdman, it was Thug who may or may not have responded directly on Instagram, announcing in a video "We going to LIV. Whoever don’t like it, pull up, fuck n--ga.” Check out the posts below, and decide for yourself. Is Thug going at Wayne? Or is it all speculation? SFTW2 party tomorrow night at da Versace mansion! Fux wit me!! U won't be sorry no u won't be sorry! Go to LIV for what? — Lil Wayne WEEZY F (@LilTunechi) January 25, 2015

Someone Tried To Sell Chris Brown's Jail ID For $10,000

A jail ID of Chris Brown's somehow made its way out of police custody and was listed for sale online. Earlier this week, a jail ID of Chris Brown's apparently popped up online with a hefty price tag. It wasn't the price that caught Brown's lawyer Mark Geragos' attention, but the fact that the photo identification had somehow made its way out of police custody, where it belonged. According to TMZ, the ID came from San Bernardino County Jail, a facility which Chris did not actually spend more than a couple of days, but happened to be a stop along the way to his Washington D.C. hearing in April (as Chris was incarcerated at the time, he made he spent nights at various jails on the way to his court date). San Bernardino Sheriff's Dept. launched an investigation, and eventually found the seller. Authorities confiscated the ID, and questioned the man, who claimed that the card had been passed through a couple of friends before making its way to him. There's been no confirmation on how the ID made it's way out of police custody, or whether a crime was committed in obtaining it.

A Documentary On Raekwon's "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx" Is In The Works

Raekwon and Ghostface screened a trailer for "The Purple Tape Files" at Sundance this weekend. Raekwon's Only Built 4 Cuban Linx is a certified classic, depending who you're talking to, it could be viewed as the greatest Wu-Tang solo project (though it's almost cheating considering Ghostface is on nearly every track). It also gained the rare honor of a legitimately great sequel, with 2009's OB4CL2, but as the 20th anniversary approaches this year, Rae has one more surprise for fans of the project. According to the Chef himself, he and Ghost hosted their own "Purple Carpet Screening" of the trailer for a documentary on the iconic debut, titled The Purple Tape Files. So far, there's no word on when the film will be released, but we're guessing it should be around August 1st, the albums 20th birthday. Check out Raekwon's tweets and Instagram posts about the screening below, and check back for further updates on the doc. Kid Cudi Talks Playing A Gay Character In "James White", Cut Kissing Scenes

Kid Cudi talks about the responsibility of playing a gay character in his new movie James White, as well as some more intimate scenes that were cut from the film. While Cudi has seemingly been keeping a low profile from a public standpoint, it turns out he's been working hard on both acting and music in over the last year. While we heard news that he just wrapped filming a new movie with Zoe Kravitz last week, the Man On The Moon had a premiere at Sundance just this weekend, acting in and providing the score for Josh Mond's "James White". Cudi's role is a gay best friend of the protagonist (played by Christopher Abbott), a challenge he was excited to take. "This was way different than anything else I've ever done," he told Billboard at the premiere. "It was dope to do that. I felt like I had a responsibility to present a different walk in life from that world." The rapper explained that his sexuality is not a focus in the film, which he found progressive. "When he comes out of the closet it's not really a thing," he said. "I think that's something the world needs to see. 'Cause it's not a thing. We're all equal." Cudi's only qualm with the final product was that a few of his more intimate scenes didn't make the cut. "I'm mad [Mond] cut out my kissing scenes with David," he said with a smile. "We made out so many times -- and it was so good! That's my only gripe." As far as the music is concerned, director Josh Mond explained why Cudi was the prefect choice for the score. "I write a lot to music, and Scott's albums I listened to while I was writing," said the director. "It was an inspiration and motivation for me. He really understands me. For the score, we asked him to write something that really paralleled the characters and New York. He found something that's really beautiful, anxious and aggressive."

A$ap Rocky Speak on Death of A$ap Yams

A$AP Rocky speaks at length on the death of A$AP Yams for the first time. If you've followed A$AP Rocky's career, you know A$AP Yams has always loomed over it. From creative decisions, to promotion, to production choices, Yams was always around. The two were also good friends, or "brothers" as Rocky described their relationship in a recent Instagram post, so it was clear that the rapper would be deeply affected by Yams' sudden passing. Billboard caught up with Flacko, following the screening of his acting debut, "Dope", as well as a short musical performance at Sundance. "That performance --that was just going to stop me from crying," he said, explaining why he decided to cut his set short. "I had to address it, because the whole time I was rapping and I wasn't into it, which is sad, but I just gotta keep it real. I can't front. It's even harder knowing that I gotta fly out in less than an hour just to go bury him. That's the part that eats at me." Rocky later cleared up assumption-based rumors that Yams had passed from a drug overdose. "People were saying that Yams overdosed on drugs --he didn't overdose on any drugs," he explained. "I feel like people feel that way because that's all he's in pictures doing. When you see A$AP Yams you see Hennessey or purple drink, you see some type of controlled substance or illegal narcotic." As far as the rapper's next project, Yams is still serving as executive producer, alongside celebrated musician Dangermouse. "I'm really intrigued for people to hear how that combination sounds. Yams manifested his powers into it."

Kanye West Accepts Visionary Award At 2015 BET Honors, Introduced By Dame Dash

Kanye West was introduced by Dame Dash at the 2015 BET Honors, where he was presented with a visionary award. The BET Honors awards are filmed over a month in advance, and now with the instantaneous nature of Twitter and Instagram, it's hard to keep the winners under wraps for more than a matter of seconds. Thanks to social media, we already know quite a bit about Kanye West receiving the Visionary award, which like everything Kanye does, seemed to be a pretty memorable moment. First off, it was Dame Dash -- who once worked with Kanye at Roc-A-Fella and has since trashed him in interviews -- who introduced Mr. West. He had mostly nice things to say, but did make sure to confirm that the two do not entirely see eye to eye, which made him a strange selection for the duties. Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar, Common, and Kanye's wife, Kim Kardashian all sung the rapper's praises in a video that aired shortly after Dame's piece. Ye then took the stage, and delivered a characteristically colorful speech, touching on creativity, and making a joke about Kim's history of dating "broke black dudes". Check out some of the tweets and Instagram posts that have surfaced from the event so far, and catch the show February 29th on BET.

Kanye West's next Album will be entirely co-produced by Paul McCartney

Ibn Jasper confirms that Paul McCartney will serve as the co-producer for Kanye West's next album. The last few updates on Kanye West's new album have involved Paul McCartney. Most recently, Ty Dolla $ign revealed that he had worked on nine songs with Kanye and Paul, but when it comes to Mr. West, we knew there was no way of knowing how many (if any) of those collaborations would make the final cut. According to Ibn Jasper, Kanye's close friend and barber of almost 20 years, Paul will co-produce the entirety of the album, so we're likely to hear a good deal of those tracks Ty was talking about. Ibn also cleared up the confusion over whether the just-released "FourFiveSeconds" was now a Rihanna song or would be saved for Yeezy's album. The answer is both, as the Roc Nation-signed artists will each put the song on the final tracklist of their respective releases.

Nipsey Hussle Reportedly Sold 60 Copies Of His $1000 Mixtape, "Mailbox Money"

Nipsey Hussle made $60,000 off of 60 copies of "Mailbox Money." Nipsey Hussle, we have to hand it to you, you're a marketing genius. After the L.A. rapper announced that he'd be selling physical copies of his December mixtape Mailbox Money (which was available for free in digital form) for $1000, Hussle claims that he's sold 60 copies as of last Tuesday. Speaking to The Guardian, Hussle said, “It surprises me, as much as I believe in it. Every time I get a transaction, I get a text on my phone, and I’ve been hitting them back. The feedback and the connection I have with these people help me understand the psychology of the person paying $1,000 for some songs that, realistically, you could download for free.” Smart move by Nip, who'd previously sold copies of 2013's Crenshaw for $100 each. Will his next project cost $10,000?

Jay Z Calls New York Governor's Police Reform Plan "A Huge Step Forward"

Jay Z releases a statement responding to NY governor Andrew Cuomo's plan for police reform. As New York state governor Andrew Cuomo called upon Jay Z and Russell Simmons to consult him on matters related to the criminal justice system last month, he's probably pleased to hear that Jay has come out in support of his reform plan. Among the changes proposed by Cuomo are recruiting more minority officers, funding body cameras and bulletproof vests and forming a statewide commission on police-community relations. Following Cuomo's words about the plan during his State of the State speech last week, Jay has offered up a statement in support of the reform package: "The criminal justice reform package proposed by Governor Cuomo today is a huge step forward in restoring fairness, protection, sensitivity and accountability for all under our justice system. I commend Governor Cuomo for his bold leadership in taking this issue head on at this critical time. This package presents comprehensive steps to protect and improve relations amongst all citizens. We cannot be divided, as every single human being matters. Together, we can move forward as a community, with mutual respect for each other and continue to make this great state stronger than ever before." Hopefully, this plan will diminish police brutality in the State of New York.

Bobby Shmurda Gets A Gun Charge Dismissed

Bobby Shmurda has one of the five charges against him dropped. Finally, some good news for Bobby Shmurda. After the Brooklyn native and 12 other members of his crew were arrested and indicted in a high-profile incident last December, Shmurda's attorney is now saying that one of the five charges against Shmurda will be dropped. In an interview with Revolt, Howard Greenberg said that the “Brooklyn D.A. office announced that the gun case in Brooklyn will be dismissed in about two weeks." The case in question stems from an incident in which Shmurda fired a gun into a crowd outside of a barbershop, and led to a "Reckless Endangerment" charge. With this out of the way, Shmurda still has to deal with charges of Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, both of which occurred after police aided his Brooklyn residence last year, as well as two counts of conspiracy. Stay tuned for more updates.

Lil Wayne To Sue Birdman for $8 Million

Lil Wayne puts his money where his mouth is, demanding Birdman pay him $8 million and free him from Cash Money. After almost two months of Lil Wayne complaining about his record label, it looks like he's finally doing something legal about it. The Cash Money/Young Money MC will target CEO Birdman in a suit that will ask for both $8 million and Wayne's freedom from the label. TMZ reports that Birdman owes Lil Wayne that $8 mil as an advance for Tha Carter V that hasn't been paid yet. In addition to this, Wayne is alleging that Birdman is violating their contract by continually withholding release of the project. While we wait for the story to develop, listen to Tunechi air out his grievances with Stunna on Sorry 4 The Wait 2.

Tyga is Being Sued By His Former Manager

Tyga is reportedly being sued by his former reps, C&J Management. Tyga has already had a considerable amount of trouble with Cash Money over the last few months, and now he's found himself in something of a legal battle. According to TMZ, the rapper's former management team is suing him $4 million dollars, claiming that they are responsible for his dame and were cut out of the profit prematurely. C&J Management says they played a major role in "turning [Tyga] from a relative nobody to a world known superstar". The team is credited with introducing Tyga to Birdman and Cash Money. Tyga and C&J parted ways in 2013, which would be totally fine, if it were not for the fact that the rapper reportedly fired the managers illegally (no word on the details, but we're assuming it's a contractual dispute). So far, Tyga has not responded to the claims. We'll keep you update on any developments.

Lupe Fiasco's Message to Kid Cudi:"Talk to me,Before I Fuck You Up"

Lupe Fiasco reveals the root of his issues with Kid Cudi on Sway In The Morning. A couple weeks back, Lupe Fiasco and Kid Cudi had a bit of a back-and-forth on Twitter, following Lupe's support of Kendrick Lamar's views on Ferguson. In a new interview with Sway, Lupe has revealed that his issues with Cudi go further back, reminding us of another Twitter quarrel he had with Cudder over an offer to record personal verses for fans. Fiasco began by going back to his early friendship with the Man On The Moon rapper. "I met Cudi when he worked at the BAPE store. He was a good dude, I loved his music," he said, explaining that he supported the rapper through his abuse of drugs. "I know when some people get fame really quick, it'll tear you apart." Lupe then went on to recall an offer he made to his fans that Cudder voiced disapproval over. “I told my fans, ‘Yo, if you want a Lupe verse, I’ll write it for you for $500. It’ll be yours; you can’t put it on Twitter — it’s yours. Don’t leak the shit or do whatever; it’s yours.’ And Cudi went on Twitter and was like, ‘Yo, Lupe, what you gonna do with that money?’… I’m thinking he joking. He's like 'Lupe's trying to swindle his fans, I would never do my fans like that'.” Rather than last week's comment, it was this engagement that burned the bridges between the two rappers, and apparently Lupe's been trying to contact Cudi directly ever since. “I said, ‘Yo, gimme this bitch ass n-gga Cudi’s number, if I see him, I’m knockin’ him the fuck out,” he told Sway. “‘Cause I wanna get to the bottom of what the fuck you talkin’ about. Because it’s me. The same n-gga you went in Complex and was like, one of the only n-ggas who reached out to me genuinely and had love for me was Lupe. But now I’m some fuckin’ thief? Now I can’t find you? Nobody knows where you are?” Lupe decided to end his piece with an invitation to Cudi. “Let’s settle this,” he stated. “Talk to me, before I fuck you up.” Watch the full interview below. The Cudi comments start at 33:20.

Tyga & Chris Brown reveal Cover Art & Release Date for "Fan Of A Fan 2" the Album

Check out the '90s-inspired album art for the "Fan of a Fan" album, plus the release date. Recently we saw some behind-the-scenes photos for Chris Brown and Tyga's lead single from Fan of a Fan 2 The Album, and while we wait on the official music video to arrive, the two have revealed the cover art for the upcoming album plus a release date. It's coming pretty soon, unlike Tyga's The Gold Album which just got delayed. We saw a few publicity shots of Breezy and Tyga for Fan of a Fan promo, and that same vibe is on the album art. It's got an obvious '90s influence, from the color and bold titling, to the clothing they're rocking. Take a look up top and let us know what you think. The project was originally set to be titled Fan of a Fan 2, but they've now simplified it to Fan of a Fan: The Album. Tyga says the album is due out in stores and on iTunes on February 24th. We'll update you once a tracklist is revealed.

Iggy Azalea Calls out Ebro for "Sparked A Change" Meme

Iggy Azalea responds to Ebro's meme of her sparking "change" in hip-hop. Hip-hop was once again up in arms thanks to an Iggy Azalea quote this past week. During an interview with GQ, Iggy Azalea was so bold as to say she "sparked a change and inspired some leniency in what people accept in hip-hop." Hmm... The remarks soon had the haters coming at Iggy on twitter, as well as memes. When HipHopWired asked their twitter followers to send a photo of their face when they heard Iggy say she "sparked a change," Hot 97's Ebro got in on the fun, sending a photo of a baby who was not pleased/half asleep. Iggy Azalea caught wind of Ebro's tweet, and quickly responded to him. She elaborated on what she meant by "sparked a change" saying, "I'm talking about changing who we accept having a voice in hip hop. As the only white, Australian, woman with a 1#." Then she added, "you can meme all you want but I have change many ppls opinions about allowing different voices to be heard." And, "u guys are the BIGGEST haters you try to exaggerate everything I say to make it seem like I have a god-like complex." See the tweets below. @oldmanebro @HipHopWired you can meme all you want but I have change many ppls opinions about allowing different voices to be heard. — IGGY AZALEA (@IGGYAZALEA) January 23, 2015 @oldmanebro @HipHopWired u guys are the BIGGEST haters you try to exaggerate everything I say to make it seem like I have a god-like complex — IGGY AZALEA (@IGGYAZALEA) January 23, 2015 @oldmanebro @HipHopWired you never thought the day would come id exist and I'm here.
