Vic Mensa Speaks On Signing With Roc Nation; Reveals Title Of Next Project

Vic is currently working on his upcoming album, "Traffic." Mere hours after it was announced that Vic Mensa joined Roc Nation, the Chicago rapper stopped by Los Angeles radio station Power 106, where he explained to the LA Leakers how it all happened. "It feels amazing,” Vic says to DJ Justin Credible. “I've been the hugest Jay Z fan for my whole life. Even past just being a fan, I have a lot of faith in how they do things at Roc Nation. "Being with people that are innovators like that," he continues. "That's what's biggest to me is keeping this fresh and interesting.” During J. Cole’s “What Dreams May Come” tour, Vic says that Roc Nation’s music executive Lenny Santiago approached him about signing to the label. His first encounter with Jay fell on the day of the 2014 Met Gala. “It's funny because the first time I ever met Jay, it was really brief,” Vic says. “It was the day of the Met Gala and that's why he had to leave our meeting real quick and that was the day he was in the elevator with Solange. That was the first time I met Jay. It's just enlightening to speak to him about this game and to just like pick up that game. Jay is one of the smartest people that I’ve met in general, especially in music. To be able to sit down and just press play for Hov, that’s a blessing.” During the interview, Vic shows off his two new tattoos. He recently had “Southside” inked below his throat and the Roc-a-Fella logo stamped on the side of his neck. Vic’s single “U Mad” featuring Kanye West is set to be included on his upcoming album. He tells Justin Credible that crafting “U Mad” with Kanye happened by chance. "I was mad at my girlfriend, so I was like, ‘You mad, huh?’” Vic recalls. “I was just kinda like going off and I played it for Kanye out in LA and he was like, ‘Yo, you should make that its own song. It kinda sounds like smizash.' So, I was like, ‘Okay, let’s run with it.’ I love the song and I appreciate all the support people are giving it. We’re just trying to take the shit all the way.” Vic is currently working on his new album, Traffic, which he says will include “a lot of personal moments, vulnerable moments, and a lot more introspective shit.”
